Good to know
- The game is played with the mouse. A few tasks use the arrow keys and the space bar.
- Choose the language with the flags at the bottom of Setup: Danish, English, Swedish, Norwegian Bokmål and Nynorsk. Your choice is remembered for next time.
- The wise old man reads the texts aloud. Click on him if a task is giving you trouble.
- If something looks wrong, let us know.
Fixes in the game
The game runs as it was released in 2005. A few things are not original, though, because they had to be changed:
- Valley of the Smoking Mountain: if you left the task while the claw was falling into the lava, the game remembered it, and the next time the crane started without its claw. The bug is on the CD-ROM too. Here the game's own script has been fixed so that it is reset every time the task starts.
- The fire station: in the original web version, the first press of Esc only stopped the sound, and you had to press it again to get out. Here the game's own script has been fixed so that a single press leaves the task, just as in the other tasks.
- The fire station: in the original web version, the task never moved on once the last stone had been sorted, and the conveyor belts just sat there empty. The only way out was Esc, which threw the result away. Here the game's own script has been fixed so that you return to the map with your result, just as in the other tasks.
- The stalactite cave and the power station: if you held an arrow key down after the miner had reached the edge, the game kept counting, and the opposite key had to be held just as long before he would move again. It was like that on the CD-ROM too. Here the game's own script has been fixed so that the arrow key stops at the edge and the opposite one works straight away.
- The English version is switched on. The translation and the voice-over are on the disc, but the flag was hidden because that version was never released. A few spelling mistakes in the game's own texts have also been corrected.
- The copy here is an evaluation disc, which would otherwise show a notice about a trial period in every task. One of the game's creators has given permission for it to be here free of charge for now, so the notice and the licence lines are hidden.
- The files have been made smaller to download: the sound has been re-encoded in a newer format, and resources the game stored several times over are shared. The sound's level and length have been measured against the original.
Quirks of the original
Some things feel off, but that is how the game was on the CD-ROM as well. We have checked them in the game's own code and are leaving them as they are:
- The desert plains: the car can hit a stone it does not touch, because the game uses square boxes around the figures. Stones are only picked up in a narrow strip in front of the car.
- The desert plains: the desert guffer costs you a real stone if it gets sucked up, even when it is standing right next to a real crystal.
- The desert plains: some tasks can only be completed with one particular stone, and changing a tyre after a collision can take more than ten seconds.
- The stalactite cave: the ball only counts as a hit when its centre is over the helmet, so it can slide past the edge.
- The fire station: if you click a piston several times, the game remembers every click, and the piston keeps pushing, once for each click.
